Arthroscopic Debridement in the Management of Degenerative Arthritis of the Knee

Abstract
Arthroscopic debridement could be an alternative to or postponed total knee arthroplasty or high tibial osteotomy in the management of degenerative knee disease.
Between Jan Jun. 1991. Nineteen patients (twenty-two knees0 who had an degenerative knee disease were managed by arthroscopic debridement. The patients were followed for an average of sixty-nine months (range, eight months to nine years). Sixteen

percent) of the twenty-two knees had maintained improvement at follow-up. Only two (9. Percent) of the twenty-two knees showed no improvement. All of the two (one at eight months after months after arthroscopic debridement, the other at two years

that )were managed by total knee arthroplasty. The remaining four (18 percent) showed temporary improvement. Temporary improvement lasted an average of twenty and half months (range, two to thirty-seven months).
